What is the name of presumably 90's animated film about animals escaping a lab?

the movie from what I can remember revolved around a group of animals lead by a monkey or ape (I cant remember witch) escaping from captivity in an animal testing laboratory and somehow making there way back to the wild only to be disappointed to find it's nothing like there story's had built it up to be, I can't remember how it ended
