How to write chemical formulas in chemistry?

You will have to memorize symbols and formulas of common (+) and (-) ions. Two of them are Na+ and PO4(3-). Ask your teacher for a list of these that you are expected to know. The number of (+)-charges have to equal the (-)-charges in neutral compounds. That's why Na3PO4.
