Types of possible Alien Civilizations?

I find your type 3 and 4 civilizations reminiscent of the movie "Independence Day", and more than a little ridiculous. To any civilization which can travel hundreds of trillions of miles through the cold vacuum of space, the Earth would have no interesting resources at all to them. Earth, in fact, has no real resources than other planets in our own solar system except life. Yet in that movie, the aliens wanted to wipe out life on Earth in order to get these "resources". What are they? Water? The moons of jupiter are almost entirely made up of the stuff. Oil? Saturn's moon Titan is covered with hydrocarbons, and what good would oil be anyway as fuel for civilizations able to travel across stars? They must certainly have some better energy source than that. I can't think of anything we have that they would want.
